Find the perfect book for Poetry Month at these South Bend stores.

Rhyme, rhythm, technique, and self-expression are some of the many reasons why reading poetry is so enjoyable. After all, few art forms allow us to explore human emotion quite like a poem. In honor of National Poetry Month, our real estate agents recommend visiting one of South Bend's fantastic local bookshops, where you'll be sure to find new titles and authors that you absolutely love. Below are some of the best local bookstores in our area:

  • Idle Hours Bookshop - 212 S Michigan St, South Bend, IN 46601
Located in downtown South Bend, Idle Hours Bookshop has been a local favorite for literature and poetry for decades. This family-owned shop has a wide selection that it's easy to get lost inside for hours at a time. The owners are incredibly friendly and are always willing to help you find a new title. The store is open Monday through Saturday, and it's conveniently located near some beautiful South Bend homes for sale.

  • Brain Lair Books - 714 E Jefferson Blvd, South Bend, IN 46617
A quaint, independently owned South Bend bookstore, Brain Lair Books focuses on empathy and generating discussion around diversity. They offer a wide selection of literature and poetry that spans dozens of genres, so it's easy to find something you love. The shop also hosts several community events. You can stop by to shop in person seven days a week, or you can schedule a curbside pickup.

  • Griffon Books and Games - 121 W Colfax Ave, South Bend, IN 46601
Founded in 1976, Griffon offers 4 levels and 4,000 feet of books, games, records, and gifts. Their new and used book selections include classic literature, poetry, philosophy, science fiction, and dozens of other genres. Griffon Books and Games also has one of the oldest game rooms in the country, where they can host up to 50 players for card games, board games, or RPG games. The shop is open 7 days a week, or you can place book orders online.

  • Erasmus Books - 1027 E Wayne St, South Bend, IN 46617
Located in the historic Howard Park neighborhood, this family-owned bookstore specializes in used and out-of-print books, so if you're looking for an unusual title, this shop can help you find it. Erasmus Books definitely has a magical, old-school vibe, and you never know what you're going to find when you stop by. The store is open Thursday through Saturday from 12 pm to 6 pm.

There is nothing quite as enjoyable as getting lost in a bookstore for a few hours. For more tips on where to shop in South Bend, contact us today.
