Holiday Traditions - Homeowners - Cressy & Everett Real Estate

Even though COVID-19 means a lot of in-person holiday gatherings won't be happening, you can still take part in meaningful holiday traditions. Our real estate agents know the perfect home provides the ideal gathering spot for all of your holiday fun. Here are some new holiday traditions to start this year.

  1. Go for a Holiday Tour of Your Town
Snuggle up in your favorite Christmas PJs and hop in the car for a holiday tour of your town. Drive through the neighborhoods that are known for having the best Christmas lights. As you drive past South Bend homes for sale, have your family members pick out their favorite decorations.

Take a drive through the downtown area to see how the streets are adorned for the holidays. Play your favorite Christmas carols as you take in the sights of the season. Make sure to pack a mug of hot cocoa and some delicious seasonal snacks!
  1. Make Putting Up Your Christmas Tree an Event to Remember
See that putting up your Christmas tree a special event that your family looks forward to every year. If you prefer to get a real tree, try to head to the same tree lot or farm each year. Make a stop at your favorite bakery or cafe to pick up some holiday treats for your excursion.

Or, if you prefer an artificial tree, set the scene for the day. Light a holiday-scented candle and turn on your favorite Christmas shows. When it's time to decorate the tree, try to spend a few minutes reminiscing about the stories behind some of your favorite ornaments.
  1. Countdown to Christmas with an Advent Calendar
There's no better way to countdown to Christmas than with a small daily treat. Get each family member their own advent calendar so they can countdown the days until Christmas. Your calendar can be as simple or as extravagant as you want.

Purchase a pre-made calendar or create your own. Check out some ideas to put in your calendar:
    • Small toys
    • Stickers
    • Candy
    • Cheese
    • Packaged baked goods
    • Hot cocoa
    • Adult beverages
    • Socks
    • Books
    • Bath products
    • Coins
    • Craft sets
    • Cosmetics
    • Snacks
  1. Hold a Themed Movie Night
Try to set aside one holiday movie that you only watch around Christmas. Then, schedule a night to watch the movie and enjoy a few themed snacks or even a full meal.

For example, if your favorite holiday movie is "Elf," no viewing party is complete without the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns, and syrup. A pancake buffet might be the perfect themed meal for your viewing.
  1. Get Crafty
It's fun to undertake a festive project, even if you aren't particularly crafty. Add a craft night to your annual holiday traditions. You might make Christmas cards to mail to your family members. Or, you could make a handmade pillow to display on your couch. Scour the internet till you find something that suits your skills and budget.

Have family members or friends that you would love to spend time with? Gather with them via Zoom for an evening of holiday crafts and conversation.
