Staycation Ideas - Homeowners - Cressy & Everett Real Estate

Raise your hand if you need a vacation! These days, we could all use a little R&R, but unfortunately, many of our travel plans for summer vacation have been canceled. Not to worry, there are plenty of ways you can have a memorable summer without ever leaving your home. Instead of jet setting around the globe, our real estate agents encourage you to grab your family and enjoy an all-inclusive staycation right in your own back yard. With a few supplies and a little creativity, you can make staycation memories that will last a lifetime.

Staycations for Families

  • Movie Night
Who doesn't love a movie under the stars? All you'll need to create a theatre in your back yard is a sheet, projector, and some comfy outdoor furniture. Pop some popcorn, grab the candy, and fill up your soda cups for a movie night with the kids. You can even make it a double-feature and screen a movie for the parents when the kids go to sleep.

  • Backyard Camping
Spend a night or two in the great outdoors with all the creature comforts of your home by camping in the backyard. Pass a flashlight around and tell scary stories, gaze up at the stars searching for constellations, and buy a small firepit so you can make s'mores.

  • Summer Camp
Bring summer camp to your back yard and give your kids hours of excitement. For a weekend or throughout the week, plan fun activities and themed days. Arts and crafts, sports, games, science experiments, and other interactive activities will keep their minds and bodies active. Cook special summer camp lunches like hot dogs, sloppy joes, grilled cheese, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and popsicles.

Staycations for Adults

  • Paradise Island
If you can't spend a weekend at the spa, pamper yourself by creating your own backyard oasis. You could go all out and have a hot tub or pool installed, or you could go the modest route and incorporate a hammock, inflatable pool, bar cart, and sandbox into the space. Even a sunchair and a drink with a tiny umbrella is all you need to close your eyes and feel a million miles away.

  • Summer Carnival
Have your own adult summer camp and invite a few close friends over for drinks and games. Cornhole, horseshoes, lawn darts, and pickleball are great competitive games that are effortless to set up. Schedule all of them together to host your own summer Olympics or kick it up a notch and create a mini-golf course in your backyard. No matter who wins, it's a safe bet that your friends will be looking forward to a rematch next year!

  • Working Vacation
For some professionals, a business trip is a vacation in itself. Give you and your spouse a similar experience by working "remotely" from your back yard. Whether on the patio, back yard, or in your outdoor entertaining area, create a temporary workspace that you can easily utilize. An extension cord, comfortable chair, portable table, and beach umbrella or shade can create an efficient yet enjoyable remote workplace. Make sure you start each morning by setting out a mini continental breakfast too!

Would you like to find a new house with plenty of backyard space for lounging, entertaining, and enjoying every moment of summer? We can help! Contact us today to start touring St. Joseph homes for sale.
