Buy Home Holidays
The holiday season is a great time for decking the halls, spending time with family and friends and… house shopping? Although it might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of fall and winter festivities, you may want to consider adding a new home to your holiday shopping list. Our real estate agents share some reasons why it's the perfect time of year to buy a home.

  1. Less Competition
Most people take time away from house-hunting in late November and December to enjoy the holidays, which creates a perfect low-stress opportunity for home buying. Inventory is typically lower this time of year, allowing you to compare homes without feeling overwhelmed by the number of choices. When you find your dream home, the seller is more likely to accept your offer. There's also less of a chance you'll end up in the middle of a stressful bidding war.

  2. Motivated Sellers
Homes on the market during the holidays are often there because the sellers have a need to get out of them. It's possible that the current owners need to relocate, want to finish moving before bad weather hits, or they want to close a deal before year's end. These factors, coupled with the reality of fewer potential buyers, often lead sellers to be far more flexible than they would be during peak season. Our real estate agents are familiar with factors such as how long a property has been on the market and can use this information to help you negotiate a great deal.

  3. Faster Closing
Not only are sellers more motivated at the end of the year, so are almost all professionals. Lenders, brokers, and agents are all looking to get deals on the books before the end of the year, which usually means the entire closing process will go more smoothly and happen faster than it might in other months. As a buyer, staying on top of requests and making sure you have all your documents in order can further expedite the process.

  4. A Dose of Reality
During the summer months, it's easy for a home to have great curb appeal. Fresh paint, a lush, green lawn, and blooming flowers make it attractive and welcoming. Seeing that same home covered in snow and ice gives you a realistic idea of what it will be like living there during other times of the year. It also gives you an opportunity to scope out potential problems that might not have been noticeable in warmer months, such as uneven heating patterns or ice dams on the roof. If you still love the home in the winter, you're likely to be happy with it year-round.

  5. Seasonal Sales
Once you've moved into your new home, you may need new furnishings, décor, and possibly even some updated appliances. Buying your home during the holidays gives you the opportunity to save even more money by taking advantage of seasonal sales. Before buying big-ticket items, make sure to comparison shop and don't be afraid to wait for post-holiday clearance prices. Just make sure you don't get over-zealous and put yourself into debt while cashing in on great deals.

If you're thinking about buying a home, now is a perfect time. Our real estate agents love helping homebuyers find the ideal property, all year-round. Contact Cressy & Everett Real Estate today to get started on your home-buying journey.
